Three accused of price tag-switching scheme at Cabela’s

BERKS COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Three men have been charged after police say they committed a retail theft scheme by price-tag switching expensive items at Cabela’s.

Accorind to the Tiden Township Police Department, three men Charles Lehman, 46, Timothy Kelly, 39, both of Barnesville, and Julius Dudash, 42, of Mahanoy City, are charged with conspiring to switching price tags on expensive outdoor equipment causing Cabela’s near Hamburg to lose thousands of dollars.

Police say in November 2023 Timothy Kelly entered the store, selected an outfit kit worth $430, placed a price tag from another item that cost $15 and did the same with a set of fishing reels worth $339 and replaced the price tag with a $30 tag. Kelly then pruchaed the items with the under valued price tag.

45 minutes later police stated those items purchased by Kelly were fraudulently returned at the store by Charles Lehman and he was given a gift card for the value of the items. Then Kelly returned to the store and selected an archery arrow worth $150, replaced the price tag with $30 price tag and paid for the items with the gift card, as stated the affidavit.

According to court document, on another date in November, Julius Dudash, who was banned from the store, selected a hunter’s backpack worth $350 and replaced the price tag with a $25 tag. Ducashthen took a $3,800 price tag for a crossbow and replace ith with a $300 tag and paid for both items with the wrong price tag, police stated.

Kelly then went to the store with the backpack that was fradunetly purchased by Dudash to return it but he was denied.

Inviestgaors reported on nuremous occasions Kelly and Lehman committed similar acts of fraud at Cabela’s resulting in the lose of thousands of dollars.

All three have been charged with retail theft, conspiracy, receiving stolen protery and other reailted theft charges.
