Three adults, two children injured in fiery head-on collision in Lyme

Connecticut State Police are investigating a fiery head-on crash that left three adults and two children injured Saturday in Lyme.

Two SUVs were involved in a head-on collision on Route 156 in Lyme, just over the Old Lyme town line, at about 9 a.m. on Saturday, according to Connecticut State Police.

A Nissan Murano driven by a 60-year-old woman from Waterford collided with a Nissan Rogue driven by a 59-year-old woman from Ivoryton, causing one of the vehicles to catch on fire after the collision. Both women were being treated for serious injuries, state police said.

A 58-year-old woman, a 12-year-old girl and a 9-year-old girl were passengers in the Murano at the time of the crash. The 58-year-old woman and the 12-year-old were both taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where the girl was being treated for serious injuries and the woman was suffering from more minor injuries, state police said.

The 9-year-old girl had minor injuries and was treated at Middlesex Health Shoreline Medical Center in Westbrook along with the driver of the vehicle she was in, state police said.

The woman who was driving the Rogue was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, state police said.
