The soccer team at Seward County Community College will begin its first year of competition next season. It will have three local athletes playing for it when it does.

Three Amarillo High girls soccer players signed letters of intent to play for the Saints. Goalkeeper Sydney Williams and defenders Abi and Belle Artley will suit up for SCCC for the next two seasons.

"It's been crazy," Belle said. "There's a lot of people here today so it's really fun."

The event was particularly notable for the Artley sisters. Their mother recently passed away and Belle had to battle through injuries much of this past season. Now, however, they've come out the other side on top and ready to take on new challenges.

"This is something we've always wanted to do," Abi said. "We've lived together our whole lives so we wouldn't know what to do if we didn't go to school together. It's super exciting to get this opportunity."

The two sisters won't be alone in their move to Liberal, Kansas this fall. Williams will be joining them after an impressive career with the Lady Sandies. She didn't see a ton of action last season due to lack of competition much of the time, but was always ready when called upon.

Now, she'll be partaking in the college game alongside two people she's grown close to over the years.

"We've grown so close over the past year and the years before," Williams said. "I love them so much. They're my two closest friends on the team and I'm really excited to be going with them."

The feeling was mutual.

"I love Sydney," Abi said with a smile. "Me and Sydney have a lot of fun times down on the field. We actually have a couple of pictures where we're just laughing during the game. It's just super nice to know multiple people that are going there."

The Lady Sandies won the District 3-5A title last season and advanced to the regional quarterfinals. Mollie Ferro had previously signed her letter of intent to play soccer for West Texas A&M, junior Lilly Cook recently committed to play DI college ball for Merrimack College and senior Lily Sobey is considering walking on at the next level.
