Three area elementary schools added to state outbreak report

Three local elementary schools were added to the state’s School-Related Cluster and Outbreak Report this week,

The Monday, Dec. 6, update to the report included Holland Christian’s Forest School and West Ottawa’s Waukazoo and Woodside elementary schools with three or more cases in a specified group. There were five cases in the outbreaks at Forest School and Waukazoo and three at Woodside.

An update from West Ottawa Public Schools Monday showed 33 active cases in the district. Each school building had at least one case. Harbor Lights Middle School had the most active cases with nine.

Woodside had three student cases in the update, while Waukazoo had two. So far this school year WOPS has seen 421 total student cases, including 121 at West Ottawa High School.

Holland Public Schools posted an update Friday, Dec. 3, reporting 19 new student cases and six new staff cases. There was at least one new student case in each school building, led by seven at Holland High.

For the school year, there have been 178 student and 41 staff cases at HPS.

A Monday dashboard update from Holland Christian showed 54 active COVID-19 cases in the district, including 41 students. There were 15 student cases at Rose Park Elementary, 11 at Holland Christian High School and seven at Forest School.

There have been 88 student cases and 33 staff cases at Holland Christian this year.

The most recent update from Zeeland Public Schools, posted Friday, reported 51 current cases in the district. There were nine cases at Creekside Middle, eight at Adams Elementary and seven each at Cityside Middle and Zeeland West.

There have been 424 cases of COVID-19 at ZPS this school year.

Hamilton Community Schools last updated its dashboard Wednesday. The update showed 19 current student cases and two among staff members. Six of the student cases were at Hamilton Middle and five were at Hamilton Elementary.

For the school year, HCS has had 166 student and 26 staff member cases.

Black River Public School posted an update Sunday with one new case. There have been 57 cases at BR this school year.

There were eight new cases reported in Saugatuck Public Schools last week. Four of the new cases were individuals at Saugatuck Middle School and three were at Douglas Elementary.

SPS has had a total of 32 cases of COVID-19 this year.

Fennville Public Schools reported five new cases, four of them staff members, last week in a pair of letters posted to the district website. There have now been 77 total cases in the district this school year.

An update from Hope College posted Monday showed 27 active student cases. There have now been 151 cases among the Hope student body this semester.

There were 193 active COVID-19 cases in the Grand Valley State University community as of Monday morning. Of those, 68 are students living off campus in Ottawa County, 56 are students living off campus in Kent County and 32 are students living on campus.

The seven-day average of new cases per day at GVSU was at 24.14 per day on Monday.
