Three arrested after woman found dead in 'unlivable' conditions

Feb. 12—Richmond Police arrested three people over the weekend on criminal abuse charges after finding a woman dead on the north end of Primrose Circle.

The incident was called in around 2 p.m. on Saturday. The arrest citations state that officers made contact with Melissa Compton, Carrie Lamb and David Lamb.

"[The room was observed] to be in a state of complete and utter disarray. There was a large amount of trash and clutter in the entire residence," the citation states.

This included the room where the woman, passed away.

Also during the investigation of the house, officers found molded food, a fridge with black water, mold and maggots inside.

The bedding for the deceased individual, who wasn't named in the citation but confirmed to be the mother of one of the persons arrested, was found covered in bodily materials, rotting food and bugs

When speaking with Melissa Compton, who cared for her mother and was the legal guardian for another resident in the house, Claude Humphrey, officers took her to RPD for questioning.

"Compton stated that she changes her mother's diaper every day, if she [would] let her," the citation said. "So it normally [got] changed every two days."

Compton, in the citation was said to blame her daughter, Carrie, saying that she did not clean or pick up.

When police brought Carrie Lamb, 24, in for questioning she told police that she tries to clean but when she was that the shear amount of trash, unsanitary items and bugs were not safe, the citation said that she agreed.

When Lamb was asked about calling 911 or any other service for assistance she said that she hadn't.

She was also asked about getting assistance for her uncle, Claude, who suffers from cerebral palsy and is bedridden and stated she hadn't thought about getting him assistance either.

When police questioned David Lamb, 21, he said on scene that he helps his mother take care of his uncle and grandmother when she is away or unable to do it.

According to the citation, police asked him if he helped, to which he said yes and and added he brought food, give them medications, and try to clean up.

Police told the younger Lamb that weren't suitable and added that it was dangerous for their wellbeing, which he agreed. David stated that he had a good relationship with Claude and would feed hi,. give him medication or hand him a video game controller if needed.

The 21-year-old stated that he he knew about the other issues within the house.

Each person was charged with counts of criminal abuse and failure to report abuse, neglect, exploitation of an adult.

The charges are as follows:

Melissa Compton: two counts of first degree criminal abuse, one count of failure to report abuse.

Carrie Lamb: one count of first degree criminal abuse, one of first degree criminal abuse of a child, one count of failure to report abuse.

David Lamb: two counts of first degree criminal abuse, one count of failure to report abuse.

Compton and David Lamb lodged in Madison County Detention Center and are being held on $75,000 bond.

Carrie Lamb is also housed in the Madison County Detention Center and is being held on $80,000 bond.
