Three banks with Door County branches were named to Newsweek's list of Best Regional Banks

DOOR COUNTY - Three financial institutions with Door County branch offices were named to Newsweek's list of America's Best Regional Banks for 2024.

Associated Bank, North Shore Bank and Nicolet National Bank were recognized by the national news magazine in its annual ranking of the country's 250 top regional banks and 250 top credit unions. They were among 10 banks and four credit unions headquartered in Wisconsin to make the list this year.

Each of the three banks earned a maximum five-star rating.

The list is based on evaluations Newsweek compiled in partnership with New York advisory firm Plant-A Insights Group of the nearly 9,500 regional banks and credit unions in the U.S. Profitability, financial relevance, overall health and stability of the company and risk of exposure during financial uncertainties were among the factors considered. Also, Newsweek surveyed more than 35,000 customers of those institutions and millions of social media and online reviews.

"Unlike their larger counterparts, (regional banks and credit unions) are deeply rooted in local economies, understanding the unique needs of the people they serve," Newsweek global editor-in-chief Nancy Cooper wrote on their webpage announcing the list. "Regional banks, with their localized focus, often cultivate strong relationships with customers, enabling them to provide personalized services … they offer a sense of trust and community that resonates with account holders."

Headquartered in Green Bay, Associated Bank, N.A., has more than 200 branch offices in Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota, including two locations in Sturgeon Bay and one in Sister Bay.

Based in Brookfield, North Shore Bank has 43 offices throughout eastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Its Door County locations are in Sturgeon Bay and Sister Bay.

Also headquartered in Green Bay, Nicolet National Bank operates 61 offices in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan, with two locations in Sturgeon Bay and one each in Egg Harbor, Sister Bay and Washington Island.
