Incumbent Daniel Babin has served for eight years, though not consecutive. He has served on numerous governing boards including education, seafood and wildlife and fisheries.

According to Babin, the parish is facing a loss of population after two disasters. If reelected, he will focus on infrastructure like roads and drainage, increase housing and working with the federal government to address rising insurance costs. He said solving these would increase the quality of life and encourage people to return.

"We need to quit blaming [the disasters] and get back to where we were before," he said about recovering after Hurricane Ida and the pandemic. "If we continue like we are going right now, this parish is going to continue to lose more citizens, which in turn you lose your tax base."

Willie Daisy

A native of Dularge, Willie Daisy, 70, has been a commercial fisherman for 55 years and has served as a member of the Louisiana Oyster Task Force for six years.

If elected, Daisy said his focus would be on infrastructure, economic development, and helping the shrimping industry. He said he was concerned about population retention. He said by encouraging business growth, more jobs would be available for the parish.

"For one thing, we need our oil industry and our shrimping industry to build back up," he said. "These areas right here were some booming areas when I was a kid, and everything is just pulling out."
