Three new coffee shops to open in the Tuscaloosa area

Things are beginning to perk up for coffee lovers in Tuscaloosa.

Here's a look at three new coffee shops that have opened or will be coming soon to the Tuscaloosa area.

Scooter's Coffee

This Nebraska-based drive-thru coffee shop opened its first Tuscaloosa location this month. The restaurant is at 632 15th St. in the Parkview Plaza Shopping Center.

Menu items include a variety of specialty espresso beverages, single-origin coffee, fruit smoothies, Red Bull infusions, cold brew, baked-from-scratch pastries and savory breakfast options.

According to its website, Scooter's signature drink is the Caramelicious, which is described as a "rich, velvety, caramel gem"

Founded in 1998 by Don and Linda Eckles in Bellevue, Nebraska, Scooter's has more than 550 locations across 28 states. Scooter's Coffee has 12 locations in Alabama.

The Tuscaloosa restaurant is open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Starbucks

A third Starbucks on the University of Alabama campus is scheduled to open Tuesday in Tuscaloosa.

The new drive-thru-only Starbucks will be on University Boulevard, near Newk's Eatery and Arby's.

According to UA's website, the 1,000-square-foot facility will be a one-story, traditional-appearance Starbucks designed to serve customers through the drive-through window and with an alternative pick-up option for customers who choose to order via Starbucks' mobile ordering app. There will be no interior café.

The two other Starbucks on the UA campus are inside the UA Student Center, 751 Campus Drive, and at 807 Paul W. Bryant Drive next to the Corner Supe Store and within walking distance of Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Outside the UA campus, Tuscaloosa has Starbucks locations at 816 Veterans Memorial Parkway, 804 Skyland Blvd. and inside the Target store at 1901 13th Ave. E.

7 Brew

Northport City Council President Jeff Hogg announced Aug. 15 in a Facebook post that 7 Brew will be coming to Northport.

The drive-thru coffee shop will be at 1120 Lurleen Wallace Blvd. across from the Shell gas station.

7 Brew serves a variety of custom-hand crafted drinks including coffee, teas, lattes, smoothies and more.

Guests can customize their drinks with a variety of syrup flavors, including almond, banana, blackberry, blue raspberry, brown sugar cinnamon and more,

They also have sugar-free options and milk alternatives, such as oat, almond, or coconut.

This will be the restaurant's seventh location in Alabama. According to its website, 7 Brew originated in Rogers, Arkansas, and now has more than 100 locations throughout the country.

More coffee

Here's a look at other new arrivals on the Tuscaloosa coffee scene, along with some established coffee shops.

Earlier this year, Strange Brew Coffeehouse, a Starkville, Mississippi-based coffee shop, opened at 1101 University Blvd. on the Strip near the University of Alabama campus.

Former University of Alabama football player Bill Getchell brought PJ's Coffee to the Strip, 1201 University Blvd., near the UA campus, in 2021. PJ's offers a variety of hot, iced and frozen coffee beverages, along with organic tea and breakfast pastries, along with New Orleans-style beignets.  PJ's also houses Rita's Ice, which specializes in Italian ice, gelati and custard.

Other popular Tuscaloosa coffee shops include Turbo Coffee  at 2010 Eighth St., Monarch Espresso Bar at 714 22nd Ave.,  Just Love Coffee at 2531 University Blvd. Suite 100, UPerk at 405 20th Ave. and Heritage House. Heritage House has three locations: one at 700 Towncenter Blvd., a downtown Tuscaloosa location across from Hotel Indigo at 2370 Jack Warner Parkway and a north of the river location at 5600 Rice Mine Road NE in the entrance of the Townes of North River subdivision.
