Three Dennis-Yarmouth Intermediate students taken to hospital after eating candy bar

YARMOUTH — Three students were taken from the Dennis-Yarmouth Intermediate School to Cape Cod Hospital on Thursday after one suffered from symptoms after eating a chocolate bar.

The Yarmouth Police Department released news of the incident Thursday at 1:45 p.m. on its Facebook page. According to the release, School Resource Officer Samantha Voltolini received word at 9:10 a.m. that a student was experiencing a reaction to an unknown substance they had consumed. The student was in the nurse's office at the time.

The student reported eating part of a chocolate bar on the bus before arriving at school. Two other students had eaten portions of the candy bar but were not experiencing any noticeable symptoms. All three students were taken to Cape Cod Hospital by the Yarmouth Fire Department for medical evaluation.

Yarmouth Police and school officials are investigating the incident, according to the statement. Parents of the three students were notified and are being kept appraised of developments.

Calls to the Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments were directed to school officials. Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District Superintendent Marc Smith wasn't immediately available for comment.
