Three days of performances ahead during Alabama Dance Theatre's Spring Gala

Three days of dance are coming this weekend from Alabama Dance Theatre’s Spring Gala: A Celebration of the Season, with each performance offering 12 pieces from seven choreographers.

“It is a wide variety,” said Kate Seale Smith, artistic director for ADT.

Public performances will start at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in downtown Montgomery at Troy University’s Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts, 251 Montgomery St.

Along with classical ballet, the gala has modern, contemporary, and comedy dance. Performances include:

“We’re ending with a rock and roll light show,” Smith said. “It’s going to be awesome.”

Among the performers are eight graduating ADT seniors: Morgan Calhoun, Shannon McGaughey, Camilla Ohme, Arrion Rollins, Jane Abbie Alford, Lilla Kate Parkman, Ja’Niya Kennedy and Kalei Denise Jones.

Guest artist Raul Peinado, who has danced with ADT for several years, will be there as well.

“It has beautiful lighting, incredible music, and beautiful costumes,” Smith said. “Everything is so different, and it shows the versatility of our dancers.”

Smith said the shows are family friendly, and that it moves very quickly.

“This is a powerful performance,” Smith said.

Tickets to ADT’s Spring Gala are $30 for center curtain, $25 for side sections, $20 for balcony, and all children’s tickets (age 12 and under) are $15, They’re available online at https://www.alabamadancetheatre.com/. For more information call 334-625-2590.

After Saturday’s matinee performance, audience members can meet the stars for $10 extra, which can be purchased ahead of time or on the day of the show.

“Come on stage and look at their costumes and take their photo with the dancers,” Smith said. “And then we give them a little gift.”
