Three displaced in Midlands mobile home fire

A mobile home in Kershaw County was left “unlivable” after it was consumed by flames early Saturday morning, Kershaw County Fire Service officials say.

There were no injuries, but three adults were displaced by the blaze.

At at 12:41 a.m., the Kershaw County Fire Service and Lugoff Fire Department were alerted to the fire on the 200 block of Watts Hill Rd., that’s off of Smyrna Road in Elgin.

On arriving, first responders found flames emerging from the front of the house. A photo shared by the Kershaw County Fire Service showed flames gushing from the door and a window at the center of the mobile home, while smoke billowed from other windows.

It took half an hour, six trucks and 14 firefighters to bring the fire under control, said department officials.

“No one was hurt and that was the biggest thing,” said Kershaw County Fire Chief William Glover.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to Kershaw County fire officials.

In a statement, Kershaw fire officials say that they notified the American Red Cross to assist with the three displaced adults.
