Three ensembles to perform at Fall Choral Concert

Three choral ensembles − the Ashland University Chamber Singers, the Ashland Area Chorus and the Ashland University Choir − will perform Sunday at the annual Fall Choral Concert. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 4 p.m. at the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel.

Rowland Blackley, director of choral activities and professor of music at AU, will conduct all three groups, while Deborah Logan will be the accompanying pianist.

The AU Chamber Singers, a select choir of 12, will sing a three-piece set of Renaissance madrigals. It will consist of a German song “Tanzen und Springen,” one of English composer John Bennet’s most famous madrigals “Weep, O Mine Eyes” and “Fair Phyllis” by John Farmer.

The Ashland Area Chorus, a mix of students and community members, is scheduled to perform three songs, capped by the “He, Watching Over Israel” part of the oratorio “Elijah” by famous German composer Felix Mendelssohn.

The AU Choir, composed of students selected via audition and representing numerous academic majors, will close the program with six pieces. Among those will be “O Taste and See,” which will honor the memory of Queen Elizabeth II, as well as James Erb’s American folk song “Shenandoah” and William Dawson’s spiritual “Ain’-A That Good News.”
