Ethereum Classic has built up an army of loyal followers who firmly believe in the “code is law” principle.
Many of these fans flock to Reddit, the social news aggregation and discussion website, to meet fellow Ethereum Classic supporters and discuss the latest goings-on in the coin’s development.
If you’re an Ethereum Classic fan or simply want to learn more about the coin, it’s worth checking out some of the most popular subreddits devoted to the cryptocurrency.
What is Ethereum Classic?
When a loophole was exploited by a hacker in June 2016 resulting in the theft of 3.6 million Ether (approximately $50 million), Ethereum forked to a new chain in order to resolve the damage from the hack.
Some developers thought the blockchain should not have been altered and they carried on mining the original Ethereum. This became known as Ethereum Classic – it is the continuation of the original Ethereum blockchain, or the “classic” version.
Ethereum Classic, or ETC, exists to preserve the principle of “code is law”. Its developers advocate for blockchain immutability and, as a result, the ledger remains untampered since its inception in 2015.
Why Reddit?
The Ethereum Classic community has a lot to say – they’ve been publishing blogs pretty much since its inception.
The coin’s community has a firm commitment to the principles it represents – there is even an Ethereum Classic “declaration of independence”, which describes the community’s vision to continue the original Ethereum blockchain “that is truly free from censorship, fraud, or third-party interference”.
The declaration also describes the “long train of abuses” by the leadership of the Ethereum Foundation.
For crypto enthusiasts with a lot to say, Reddit is one of the first sites they head over to. Dubbed “the front page of the internet”, Reddit is home to an array of cryptocurrency communities, enabling newcomers, experienced traders, and miners to find out the latest market news, get trading tips, and receive guidance from their peers.
Reddit is really useful if you want to get information about niche altcoins that don’t receive much attention from the mainstream media.
Ethereum Classic subreddits
A search on the Reddit homepage will bring up a handful of subreddits that are dedicated to Ethereum Classic. To recap, subreddits are like individual forums devoted to a particular topic.
All subreddit names begin with a lowercase “r” followed by a slash, then the name of the subreddit. Each subreddit is hosted by a moderator and has its own rules regarding posts.
Some subreddits have only a handful of members, which means posts are few and far between. Others, however, garner vast and active member communities with new posts appearing on a daily basis.

r/EthereumClassic
With 25,000 members, this is by far the most popular and active Ethereum Classic subreddit. All posts are related to Ethereum Classic or any projects and businesses related to the project.
This subreddit is firmly devoted to Ethereum Classic principles. The page description states: “We believe in a decentralised, censorship-resistant, permissionless blockchain. We believe in the original vision of Ethereum as a world computer that you cannot shut down, which runs irreversible smart contracts.
“We believe in a strong separation of concerns, whereby system forks are to correct actual platform bugs or provide functionality upgrades, not to bail out failed smart contracts and associated special interest groups. We believe in a platform that can actually be trusted – by anyone.”

With 1,500 members, this subreddit has more of a trading slant, although posts are varied and include guides to understanding Ethereum Classic as well as price analyses.
The subreddit has one rule: “Be excellent to each other.” It adds: “You are expected to treat everyone with a certain level of respect. If you can’t play nice with others, you will not be allowed to post here.”
There is a weekly discussion thread where you can discuss anything that does not require a separate post or simply chill and chat about the week in Ethereum Classic.

For something a bit different, this subreddit is for Redditors who support both Ethereum and Ethereum Classic equally. It has 259 members and posts include news, price analyses, and technical advice on both cryptocurrencies.
