Three fires in Kharkiv Region due to shelling; grandmother killed

Rescuers in the Kharkiv region made three trips in the course of the day to extinguish fires caused by Russian shelling: the largest one occurred at midnight in Barvinkove, Izium district, where a shell hit a two-storey house and killed an elderly woman.

Details: Rescuers were dispatched to extinguish fires in a two-storey building and a private house, as well as in a pine forest, caused by shelling. The fires occurred in the Izium (1) and Chuhuiv (2) districts of the region.

The largest of these fires broke out at 00:40 on 8 May in the town of Barvinkove, where a Russian shell hit a two-storey apartment building. As a result, a fire broke out in a flat on the first floor of the building, covering an area of 50 square metres.

Rescuers managed to extinguish the fire at 03:05.

The explosion caused a partial collapse of the building structure, under which rescuers found the body of an 83-year-old woman.

Rescuers carried out a total of 29 operational missions during the day, carried out rescue work and debris removal in Kharkiv; explosives experts destroyed 58 items of Russian munitions.
