Three Fresno-area high school football teams to host, two on the road in CIF regionals

The Clovis North football team will hit the road in the California Interscholastic Federation Northern California high school regional.

The Broncos (13-0) learned Sunday that they visit De La Salle-Concord (10-2) in a Division I-AA game Friday night.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Clovis North is coming off a victory against Central to clinch its first Central Section Division 1 championship since 2012.

“I know our body of work speaks for itself,” Broncos coach Mike Jacot said of facing De La Salle.

“I also try to focus on what I can control and I know our players, coaches, and fans are fired up for the opportunity to play for a state championship, home or away.”

Clovis North defeated Central 24-14.

De La Salle defeated San Ramon Valley 17-7 in a North Coast Section Championships Division Open game.

Clovis North has plenty of key wins during the season besides beating tough Tri-River Athletic Conference teams.

The Broncos defeated MaxPrep’s No. 10 JSerra Catholic-San Juan Capistrano 23-7 on Sept. 15.

The Spartans are No. 24 by MaxPreps. Clovis North is No. 6.

Clovis North isn’t the only Fresno-area team playing in the CIF regionals.

CVC, Mission Oak, Strathmore to host

Central Valley Christian will host Simi Valley in a South Division 2-A at 6 p.m. Saturday in Visalia

The Cavaliers (13-1) are coming off a 43-42 come-from-behind victory over Lemoore for the section Division 2 championship.

The Pioneers (9-5) defeated Mira Costa 44-38 in a Southern Section Division 6 championship.

Mission Oak (9-5) will meet Rio Hondo Prep (13-1) in a South Division 4-A matchup that will be played at 6 p.m. Saturday at Bob Mathias Stadium.

The Hawks defeated Kerman 34-14 in a Division 3 title game.

The Kares defeated Santa Monica 29-27 in a Southern Section Division 9 championship game.

Strathmore also will host.

The Spartans (10-4) will face Lincoln-San Francisco at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Strathmore comes into the game after defeating Mendota 14-7 in the Division 6 championship.

The Mustangs (9-3) won their San Francisco Southern Section championship game over Balboa, 35-0.

Torres on the road

Torres will face Jurupa Hills-Fontana at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a South Division 4-AA game.

The Toros (11-3) won the Division 4 title in convincing fashion, rolling to a 69-14 victory over Dos Palos.

The Spartans (8-6) defeated Charter Oak-Covina 21-14 in a Southern Section Division VIII championship.
