Laundry Luv's four-hour free-for-all

Nothing says holidays like ... clean clothes.

Clean clothes?

Yes, and saving money.

From 2-6 p.m. Wednesday, Laundry Luv at 3202 North First St. is having a Free Laundry and Literacy Day.

The company is partnering with the LaundryCares Foundation to provide free laundry services for Abilene. This includes free laundry products, plus free food and activities for youngsters.

No quarters are required; machines will run free. The Laundry Luv Care Team will be on hand to assist.

There are 54 washers and 56 dryers of various capacities.

At this time, the facility's new Read, Play & Learn space will be unveiled. Here, children can learn while their parents do the laundry. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 3 p.m. that day involving the Abilene Public Library.

LaundryCares Foundation and Too Small to Fail have partnered to create the Laundry Literacy Coalition that supports early language development in children.

Feast for the family

Feast of Sharing returns as an in-person event next Tuesday at the Abilene Convention Center.

H-E-B's annual Feast of Sharing is Dec. 6, with the event back in person at the Abilene Convention Center, 1100 North Sixth St.

Regular serving hours return - 4-8 p.m. Expect to stand in line as thousands will be served.

There is no cost.

For the past two years, meals were provided in a to-go, drive-up format as COVID-19 affected large gatherings.

This year, H-E-B, with help from its mobile kitchens and many volunteers, will serve up "traditional Texas-style meals" at all its dinner locations in the state, its website said.

In addition to a meal, Feast of Sharing guests will enjoy live music, arts and crafts, children’s activities and entertainment for the whole family throughout the day.

The company launched its Feast of Sharing initiative in 1989.
