Three injured in accident on High Rock Lake on Saturday when pontoon boat is broadsided

Three people were thrown into the water and injured after a bass boat T-boned a pontoon boat at High Rock Lake on Saturday afternoon.

According to Officer Cody Walker with the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission, at approximately 1:30 p.m. at Abbotts Creek area near Holloway Church Road and the High Rock Marina and Campground a man driving a bass boat broadsided a pontoon boat.

As a result of the collision, the operator and a passenger on the pontoon boat were thrown into the water and a third passenger was injured. Walker said the operator of the bass boat and other nearby boaters assisted the victims out of the water.

All three passengers of the pontoon boat were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One passenger sustained a broken pelvis and is still in the hospital. The other two passengers were treated and released.

Walker said the operator of the bass boat and a 10-year-old boy were uninjured in the incident.

Investigation into the case is ongoing, but drug or alcohol was not a contributing factor.
