Three injured in Wednesday night crash on icy Hwy. 40 in Chippewa County

Mar. 11—GRACE TOWNSHIP — A two-vehicle crash Wednesday night on an icy and snowy road in Chippewa County led to three people being injured, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Victoria Lynn Pagel, 21, of Murdock, and Alex Steven Fuentes, 18, and Damaris Fuentes Montoya, 39, both of Willmar, were transported to hospitals after suffering non-life-threatening injuries in the crash south of DeGraff.

According to the crash report, a 2018 Nissan Rogue, driven by Fuentes, was traveling westbound on state Highway 40 and a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Pagel, was traveling eastbound on the same road.

The vehicles collided around 40th Avenue on Highway 40.

Pagel was transported to the Swift County-Benson Health Services Hospital in Benson, while Fuentes and his passenger Montoya were transported to Carris Health — Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Both vehicles had their airbags deployed and all parties were wearing their seat belts, according to the State Patrol.

Alcohol is not listed as a factor on the crash report.

The Chippewa County Sheriffs Office, Murdock Fire Department, Boondock First Responders, Benson Ambulance and the Murdock Ambulance responded to the crash, reported at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday.
