Three killed, one wounded when gunshots erupt at rural North Carolina home, cops say

Deputies responding to a 911 call discovered a scene of carnage along a gravel road in North Carolina: three bodies and a fourth person seriously wounded.

Identities of the four have not been released.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, May 7, at a rural home just north of Whiteville, according to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office. Whiteville is about 115 miles south of Raleigh.

“Columbus County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 129 Elizabeth Street ... in reference to a gunshot wound,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

“Four individuals were shot, three are deceased, including the suspect. The surviving individual was airlifted to the hospital in New Hanover County to be treated for the injuries.”

Emergency medical units from Whiteville, Chadbourn and Lake Waccamaw also responded to help “assess the injuries,” officials said.

Investigators have not released details of how the victims are connected or a motive.

Zillow.com reports the site is a three-bedroom home of about 1,600 square feet. The neighborhood of gravel roads is north of the intersection of US 74 and US 701 Bypass.
