Three killed in weekend crashes

Jul. 3—Three men died over the weekend in separate crashes in the Permian Basin.

According to DPS, Luis Eduardo Gutierrez, 32, of Heber, California died in a two-vehicle wreck Friday at U.S. 285 and RM 652 in Reeves County.

A preliminary investigation Gutierrez blew through a stop sign while driving a Ford F-150 and struck a tractor-trailer being driven by a 24-year-old man from San Angelo, DPS said.

Gutierrez, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened shortly after midnight.

Roughly eight hours later, Vernon Brady Doggett, 22, of Moran was killed in a two-vehicle wreck 20 miles west of Big Spring on State Highway 350.

According to DPS, a preliminary investigation revealed a 33-year-old Glendale, Arizona man was traveling north in a tractor-trailer when he veered into the southbound lanes for unknown reasons and hit Doggett, who was driving a Ford F-150.

Doggett, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Scenic Mountain Medical Center in stable condition.

Kayode Emmanuel Omotoso, 47, of Midland died early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash 10 miles north of Lenorah, according to DPS.

Omotoso was traveling north on FM829 when he veered into the southbound lane and his tractor-trailer hit another tractor-trailer at 3 a.m., DPS stated.

Omotoso, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. the driver of the other vehicle, a 56-year-old man from Odessa, was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
