Three Lake View football players make college choices official at signing

Three seniors from the Lake View High School varsity football team accepted offers to continue playing football at the collegiate level earlier this week.

Jon Cepeda

Cepeda committed to to play for Wayland Baptist University as an offensive lineman. In his last season for Lake View, Cepeda appeared in 10 games for the Chiefs, allowing two sacks and contributing to 15 rushing touchdowns. On defense, he had 10 total tackles, three solo tackles and one tackle for a loss. Jon is undecided on what major he will pursue.

“What made me want to commit was the environment when I went there and (I) felt like family,” Cepeda said. “Like I belonged there and that I was surrounded by God. So, it really made my decision easier.”

Ricky Ramirez

Ricky Ramirez committed to Kansas Wesleyan University to continue playing football. During his senior season at Lake View, Ramirez mostly played running back for the Chiefs where in seven games he amassed 94 carries for 766 rushing yards at 8.15 yards a carry. Ramirez said he also considers himself a utility player who lined-up at outside receiver, slot receiver, corner back and defensive end during last season. Ramierz caught 12 passes for 70 yards at 5.83 yards a catch and 10 yards a game in seven games. On the defensive side, Ramirez logged 33 tackles, three tackles for a loss and one fumble recovery.

“So, throughout the year I’ve kind of been on the fence of the recruiting process (and) I was trying to get my film out there,” Ramirez said. “I was going to a lot of camps, but I may have started too late in the process and as a school (Kansas Wesleyan) was the first to reach out to me… And when that happened, I decided to give it a shot, and after the first visit it felt like the right opportunity for me.”

Ramirez said he was impressed with how the faculty and coaching staff treated him and expressed to him how the team wanted to operate like a family, which reminded him of his time at Lake View.

“Coach Guevara, along with all the other coaches, were really great supporters and great motivators,” Ramirez said. “They wouldn’t let you fail (and) they always pushed you and they put you in the best spot they believe is the best for you and the team. They never let me down, so I never let them down.”

Ramirez is planning on majoring in electrical engineering and minoring in business while in school.

Adam Robles

Robles appeared in four games at wide receiver logging eight receptions for 92 yards. He also played defensive back for Lake View recording 10 tackles, two tackles for a loss, three interceptions, and one fumble recovery. Robles also returned kickoffs for the Chiefs totaling three returns for 58 yards.

Robles also accepted an offer from Kansas Wesleyan University.

“I had a couple of friends that had gotten emails from (Kansas Wesleyan) and for one of them to go visit and I was the only one that put myself out there to them really, so to get in touch with them was a little different than everybody else,” Robles said. “I let my film speak for itself and I talked to my position coach, and we already had a good relationship from the jump and it was really easy to talk with him on tour as well.”

Robles said he missed playing time his senior year due to injuries and personal reasons but received a lot of help from the coaching staff at Lake View.

“(Adam) battled some adversity but handled it a lot better than some adults would and he’s a young talented kid that can play anywhere on the field,” head coach Hector Guevara said.

Including playing wide receiver at Kansas Wesleyan, Robles plans on majoring in physical therapy and minoring in business management.

“They all had unique paths… These are three good young men and I’m excited for all three of them in their new endeavors,” Guevara said.
