Three local bands and open mic session to highlight amphitheater dedication

MILLERSBURG ― A dedication ceremony and an evening of concerts will highlight the Heard in Holmes County event set for June 10 at the Timothy Baker Amphitheater at Deer Run Park. The event is honoring the award-winning community project completed by a local high school student in pursuit of her Eagle Scout badge.

Activities get under way at noon with a dedication ceremony of the Timothy Baker Amphitheater, a 200-seat outdoor venue developed through generous donations from the Holmes County community. West Holmes senior Brenna Barbey, an Eagle Scout in BSA Troop 338G, was able to build an outdoor amphitheater at Deer Run Park in Millersburg.

Low Gap, made up of Phin and Gus Johnson of Winesburg, will be one of three bands lined up to play at the Timothy Baker Amphitheater in Deer Run Park on Saturday, June 10. There will also be an open mic session and a dedication of the facility beginning at noon.

Barbey won two awards for her work including the Buckeye Council Eagle Scout Project of the Year.

Barbey's project has also received national recognition as the BSA Territory 9 winner for Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. The project in Millersburg is one of the Top 16 Eagle Scout projects in the country.

She also earned the Eagle Scout badge she sought, making her the first female Eagle Scout in Holmes County,

Millersburg Village Administrator Nate Troyer expressed his appreciation for Barbey's efforts.

“We are very appreciative of Brenna’s hard work to make this project a reality. I’ll admit when she first approached us, I was not envisioning such an impressive outcome," Troyer said. "She did a tremendous job in creating an outdoor entertainment area that will be a great addition to our park. This amphitheater will be a huge asset to the community now and well into the future.”

Reaping the fruits of her labor

“I’m really excited that everything is finally coming together,” Barbey said. “It’s event that will showcase the musical talents of Holmes County, but it also will have food trucks and bring the community together.

“I’m excited to see the work that I put in come to what I envisioned for Holmes County,” she continued. “It’s very rewarding to see everything I worked for coming to fruition.”

Brenna's mother, Heidi Barbey, has coordinated the event by lining up the bands, finding sponsors for the bands and helping promote the event with the assistance of the Holmes County Chamber of Commerce.

"Brenna put in all this hard work to get that amphitheater in there, so we really wanted to make sure that it got used and showcased," Heidi Barbey said. "We want to give people an idea of events that can occur there."

Community comes through again

The three musical acts are performing free of charge, thanks to the generous sponsorship from a number of community members. There were four levels of sponsorship for the event, and they were all filled almost immediately.

Millersburg Electric is also providing the use of a generator to power the food trucks and sound system.
