Three Marlin girls land on South Dakota hockey all-state teams

Mar. 13—MITCHELL — With the season officially over, a trio of Mitchell Marlin girls hockey players were named to the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association's varsity-level all-state teams for 2022-23.

Forward Brynlee Sabers, who picked up a state-high 31 goals and 47 points, was named to the first team, defender Reese Amick's 13 goals and 20 points landed her on the first team and Makenna Tronnes was named to the second team.

Both Sabers and Tronnes had 16 assists on the season, which was tied for second in the state, as the Marlin girls ended the season at 9-9-0-1 overall and took fourth place at the state tournament. Olivia Nockels was Mitchell's recipient of the 2023 Hobey Baker Character Award.

On the boys side, the Marlins competed in their first state tournament in six years and finished sixth. Senior Drake Jerke was the recipient of the 2023 Hobey Baker Character Award.
