Three men booked for attempted copper pipes theft

Jan. 9—The Kern County Sheriff's Office booked three men into jail on suspicion of attempted grand theft of copper wires, vandalism and conspiracy after they were detained at a traffic stop on Highway 119 around 7 p.m. Monday.

Travis Swanson, 51, of Bakersfield, Carl Stark, 56, of Tupman and Morris Bertrand, 46, of Tupman were attempting to steal copper pipes and an irrigation system in an orchard, according to KCSO. Investigators found wires cut from a vandalized irrigation system, but were not taken.
