Alexandre Dumas’ 1844 novel of swashbuckling and heroic escapades in 1600s-era Paris never gets old. It’s been adapted to movies, television, stage, animation and even video games.

Now it is getting a comedic comeuppance - with music - courtesy of Surfside Playhouse. The theater presents “Three Musketeers Fractured” June 10 to 26.

“It’s a tale of 'The Three Musketeers' like you’ve never seen before,” promised Surfside artistic director Bryan Bergeron, who wrote the script for this comic take-off.

For some years, the beachside theatre has garnered a reputation for poking gentle fun at some of literature’s iconic works. Audiences love it.

Surfside’s retelling takes audiences on a wild ride of palace intrigue and adventurous derring-do. Swords, long hair, damsels in distress and sex, sort of.

“Sexual innuendo, at least,” said Bergeron. “We rate this show as PG.”

The cast blends seasoned performers together with child actors.

“I always look forward to these multi-generational productions,” said Bergeron.

“This cast is amazing. It’s hard to get through rehearsals with all the laughing going on. These performers are just drop-dead funny!”

The large cast features a troupe of 20 actors that support stars Bob Buckley, Andrew Villain, Edward Johnson, Penn Lorraine, Eric Boritzki, Lou Lou Miller, Gordon Ringer, Joanne Maio, Malinda Villain, Mario Busacca, Tracy Pratt, Bibiana Dolcin, Dana Blanchard and Jackson Hachmeister. Susan Childers is in charge of the elaborate costumes.
