Three Pa. legislative leadership teams announced

Nov. 16—HARRISBURG — Three Pennsylvania legislative caucuses announced their respective leaders for the 2023-24 session in the General Assembly.

The Senate Republican Caucus along with the caucuses for House and Senate Democrats elected leaders this week. An announcement from the House Republican Caucus hasn't yet been made.

State Sen. Kim Ward, R-Westmoreland, will serve as interim Senate President Pro Tempore from Dec. 1 until Jan. 2, making her the first woman to hold the position — third highest in Pennsylvania government. She takes over from state Sen. Jake Corman, R-Centre, who is retiring.

State senators are slated to vote Jan. 3 on a permanent Senate President Pro Tempore.

State Sen. Joe Pittman, R-Armstrong, succeeds Ward as Senate majority leader in the new year. Sen. Ryan Aument, R-Lancaster, becomes majority whip. Sen. Scott Martin, R-Lancaster, will chair the Senate Appropriations Committee. Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill, R-York, will serve as majority caucus chair. Sen. Camera Bartolotta, R-Beaver, was elected as Senate majority caucus secretary.

Leadership for the Senate Democratic Caucus is as follows: Minority leader, Sen. Jay Costa, D-Allegheny; caucus whip, Sen. Tina Tartaglione, D-Philadelphia; Appropriations Committee chair, Sen. Vincent Hughes, D-Montgomery; minority caucus chair, Sen. Wayne Fontana, D-Allegheny; caucus secretary, Sen. Maria Collett, D-Bucks; caucus administrator, Sen. Judy Schwank, D-Berks.

House Democrats re-elected its current leadership team of Rep. Joanna McClinton, D-Philadelphia, minority leader; Rep. Jordan Harris, D-Philadelphia, minority whip; Rep. Matt Bradford, D-Montgomery, minority Appropriations Committee chair; Rep. Ryan Bizzarro, D-Erie, House Democratic Policy Committee chair; Rep. Tina Davis, D-Bucks, caucus secretary; Rep. Mike Schlossberg, D-Lehigh, caucus administrator; Rep. Dan Miller, D-Allegheny, caucus chair.
