CT state police identify 3-year-old child, mother fatally shot in home in Brooklyn

The Connecticut State Police identified two of the three people found dead in a home in Brooklyn on Tuesday night.

Troop D in Danielson received a report of a suspicious incident at a home on Middle Street in Brooklyn just before 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Responding troopers found two adults and one child inside the home who were pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police. Two of the victims were identified as 33-year-old Lury Pizarro and her son, 3-year-old Emmanuel Perez, of Worchester, Massachusetts, according to state police on Thursday.

Pizarro died of gunshot wounds to the head, neck and torso, according to the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Her death was ruled a homicide, officials said. Perez died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to officials. His death was ruled a homicide.

Police Friday identified the third deceased person as Jose A. Perez, 31, also of Worcester.

A GoFundMe was started to cover the funeral expenses for Pizarro and her young son. Leyshaliz Otero, who started the fundraiser, said Pizarro was an amazing and beloved mother, daughter, sister and cousin.

“Lury was a kind and generous person who touched the lives of many,” Otero said in the GoFundMe. “She was selfless and always helping others. Emmanuel was a smart, loving, caring, playful 3-year-old.”

The third person has not been identified due to next of kin notification, state police said.

The state police said it appeared to be an isolated incident and there was no ongoing threat to the public based on their initial findings.

Brooklyn Superintendent of Schools Patricia Buell sent a letter to families and staff offering support.

“You may already be aware of a tragic incident that occurred in Brooklyn last evening,” Buell said in the letter. “There are three people who have died, one is a child. The child is not a student of the Brooklyn Public Schools, but our hearts break for their family and loved ones.”

Buell also stated that staff and students had access to counselors on Wednesday.

“Tragic events such as this can impact people differently,” she said in the letter. “Please reach out to counselors at the school or 211 to find counseling support if needed. We will address any needs as they arise. Please keep the family, neighbors, and first responders in your thoughts as we deal with this sad situation in Brooklyn.”

The Eastern District Major Crime Squad is investigating the incident, state police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Ethan Tanksley at ethan.tanksley@ct.gov.
