Three people, including baby, killed in Utah plane crash

A single-engine plane with six people on board crashed into a Utah neighborhood Saturday, killing three passengers, including a 9-month-old baby.

The Piper PA-32 went down in a West Jordan backyard around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, according to officials.

Two adults and the infant were killed, while three other passengers, including a 2-year-old child in stable condition and a 12-year-old child who was treated and released, were injured. An adult woman is in critical condition.

A 72-year-old woman on the ground was badly burned after being hit by the falling plane, her brother told the Deseret News.

Video of the crash site also shows a massive fire on the ground where the plane landed.

“The smoke, the flames, just people running everywhere, screams from this woman,” a witness told KUTV.

It’s unclear what caused the plane, which had taken off from South Valley Regional Airport in West Jordan, to crash.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
