Three people injured in morning collision

Nov. 7—Three people suffered injuries in a crash Tuesday morning two miles east of St. Joseph.

The accident happened just before 10 a.m. when two vehicles were heading eastbound on Missouri Route 6. A van driven by Antonio Wilmer, 44, Kansas City, Kansas, slowed down to make a left turn on N.E. River Ridge Road.

"The vehicle behind it thought it was slowing down to make a right turn, went to pass on the left, and when the van turned left, they collided at the front left corner of the van and the front right corner of the truck," Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper Aaron Mapel said.

The truck, driven by Gary Power, 73, of Easton, Missouri, ended up in a ditch. Power, who according to a highway patrol report was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Mosaic Life Care with moderate injuries.

Wilmer and his passenger, Sergio Velazquez, 31, of Kansas City, were wearing seat belts and were taken to Mosaic with minor injuries.

Missouri Route 6 was blocked off near the intersection of River Ridge Road for more than half an hour as a tow truck cleared vehicles from the roadway.
