Three Rivers Foundation to award more than $1 million to Oregon nonprofits

The Three Rivers Foundation will again award more than $1 million to Oregon nonprofits.

The foundation is the charitable arm of the Three Rivers Casino Resort, established by the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians. The tribe started the foundation in 2011 with profits from the casino and supports causes such as education, health and the environment, according to a news release.

“It is important to us that we make an impact within our community and help organizations that work hard to get the extra funding they need to be successful,” Doug Barrett, tribal council member and Three Rivers Foundation Board of Trustees chair, said in the news release. “Our board values the community and helping organizations that help so many families and individuals.”

Earlier this year, the foundation disbursed $1.4 million to more than 100 nonprofits.

Applications for this cycle are open to nonprofits in Lane, Curry, Douglas, Lincoln and Coos counties and can be submitted until Dec. 31 at threeriversfoundation.org/apply-now.

Applications from other Oregon nonprofit organizations with projects specifically important to Native American populations and projects that would have statewide impact are also welcome.

Past awards in Lane County include $30,000 for Veterans Legacy, a group helping rehabilitate homeless veterans; $25,000 for CASA of Lane County; $22,000 for Creswell Clubhouse, which provides youth services and programs; and two grants for $25,000 and $50,000 for Eugene's Pearl Buck Center, which provides support to individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families.

The Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians are made up of three tribes and four bands: two bands of Coos Tribes (the Hanis Coos or Coos Proper and Miluk Coos); Lower Umpqua Tribe; and Siuslaw Tribe. The tribes trace their ancestry back to the aboriginal inhabitants of the south-central coast of Oregon.
