Three Rockford-area businesses named among fastest growing in the country

What do a coffee company, a roofing and siding business and a financial services provider have in common?

For three Rockford-area businesses, it means being part of an elite group of fastest growing private companies in the country.

Inc. Magazine recently released its list of the 5,000 fastest growing private companies in the United States.

The list featured Roscoe's Martin Exteriors, Rockford's Fire Department Coffee and Savant Wealth Management.

Companies on the 2023 Inc. 5000 were ranked according to percentage revenue growth from 2019 to 2022. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2019.

The companies must be U.S.-based, privately held, for-profit, and independent — not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies — as of Dec. 31, 2022.

The minimum revenue required for 2019 was $100,000 while the minimum for 2022 was $2 million.

Here's a closer look at the three Rockford-area businesses that landed on the list:

Martin Exteriors Roofing & Siding

The family-owned business came in as the 570th fastest growing company in the country, according to Inc.com. The business, which opened in Roscoe in 2006, has seen a three-year growth of 1,029 percent and was the only Rockford-area company to be listed this year as a repeat honoree.

Martin Exteriors Roofing & Siding has also won multiple Rockford Register Star "What Rocks" awards recently. The business won the Best Roofing Contractor award in 2020 and 2021 as well as the Best Siding Contractor in 2021. The company has also previously been recognized by Inc.

Fire Dept. Coffee

The second business from the area to make the list is Fire Dept. Coffee in Rockford.

Inc. listed the coffee company as the 1,370 fastest growing company in the country.

The business, which is run by active and retired firefighters, has seen a three-year growth of 427 percent, according to the report.

Coffee for the business is roasted in Rockford and available to purchase online. The business opened in 2016 and has since expanded to offer spirit-infused coffee among its other brews.

Fire Dept. Coffee was the second highest Illinois food and beverage business to make the Inc. 5000 list.

Savant Wealth Management

The third Rockford company to crack the top 5,000 list was Savant Wealth Management, which was listed as the 4,589th fastest-growing company in the country.

Savant has seen a three-year growth of 89 percent, according to Inc.

The financial business which offers investment management, financial planning, retirement planning and more opened in 1986. The business is headquartered in Rockford and now has 35 offices in 13 states.

Illinois businesses

In total, 229 Illinois businesses made the Inc. 5000 list this year.

Businesses which made the list are from all over the state, including Chicago, Springfield, Schaumburg, Yorkville, Crystal Lake, Naperville, Effingham, St. Charles, Sycamore and more.

Over the past three years, these 229 Illinois businesses have added 25,147 jobs and totaled nearly $15 billion in revenue.

All of Illinois businesses, as well as the rest of the top 5,000 honorees, will be celebrated at the Inc. 5000 Gala in San Antonio, Texas, on Nov. 2, 2023.
