After three years at Texas, Troy Tulowitzki is moving on.

D1Baseball reported Sunday that Tulowitzki will not return as UT's volunteer assistant coach for the 2023 season. A Texas source later confirmed that to the American-Statesman.

For the past three seasons, Tulowitzki was the Longhorns' hitting coach. He also served as a defensive tutor for the infielders.

Following the end of a 13-year MLB career, Tulowitzki joined David Pierce's coaching staff ahead of the 2020 season. This spring, Texas led the nation with 753 hits and the team crushed a school-record 128 home runs. First baseman Ivan Melendez won the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy. Defensively, Texas compiled a Division I-leading .985 fielding percentage.

Tulowitzki recently told the Statesman that he was a candidate for the head coaching job at USC. D1Baseball reported that Tulowitzki won't coach the Trojans next season and will instead do some consulting before he finds his next job.

The departure of Tulowitzki leaves a second hole on UT's coaching staff. Texas parted ways last Monday with Sean Allen, a longtime lieutenant of Pierce's who had been the Longhorns' pitching coach for the past three seasons.

The MLB draft and transfer portal will also partially empty the Texas dugout in the coming weeks. Former UT pitcher Joshua Stewart announced on Sunday that he will transfer to Texas A&M after appearing in 10 games as a freshman with the Longhorns.
