Three-star defensive standout, Ohio native Ted Hammond commits to Michigan football
It was former Michigan Wolverines quarterback Dennis Franklin who once made a Buckeye-state enraging quip, that only "the good ones" go to Michigan, when it comes to players from the state of Ohio going to "that team up north".
Franklin wasn't the first, nor would he be the last to do.
On Wednesday, another of "the good ones" decided he wants to join the maize and blue. Three-star defensive lineman and tight end Ted Hammond committed to the Wolverines as a member of the 2024 recruiting class in a tweet sent Wednesday evening. As part of his announcement, Hammond thanked friends and family and shouted out the coaching staff who aided him in his recruitment.

The St. Xavier (Cincinnati) star was offered by the Wolverines on Jan. 13, and committed 12 days later. His addition to the class gives Michigan a total of five players for 2024. Coach Jim Harbaugh's class is ranked ninth in the country by 247 Sports, and second in the Big Ten (behind Iowa at No. 8).
Hammond, at 6-foot-5 and 258 pounds, is ranked No. 357 nationally in 247 Sports' composite rankings, coming in at No. 31 in his position group and No. 13 in the Ohio rankings. The defensive lineman had 20 other offers, including from Big Ten schools Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern and Rutgers.
