The Gophers football program on Friday received commitments from Drake Lindsey, a three-star quarterback from Fayetteville, Ark., and Jalen Smith, a three-star wide receiver from Mankato West. Both players made unofficial visits on Friday and announced on Twitter that they will be part of coach P.J. Fleck's 2024 recruiting class.

Lindsey, 6-5 and 220 pounds, passed for 3,620 yards and 37 touchdowns with only three interceptions as a junior in 2022 while earning Class 7A all-state honors. He is the 12th-ranked recruit in Arkansas and the 51st-ranked QB nationally by the recruiting website His scholarship offers included Colorado State, Missouri State, South Alabama, Tulsa, Alabama-Birmingham and UNLV.

Lindsey fills a spot at QB in the 2024 class after Georgia prep standout Aaron Philo rescinded his commitment in April.

Smith, 6-1 and 180 pounds, caught 49 passes for 729 yards and eight touchdowns for the Scarlets last year. He is the eighth-ranked player in Minnesota in the 2024 class and 129th-ranked wide receiver nationally in the 247Sports composite ratings of major recruiting services. Smith had offers from Iowa State, Kent State and North Dakota State.

With the commitments of Lindsey and Smith, the Gophers have 14 pledges for 2024. Their class is ranked 15th nationally and fifth among Big Ten teams in the 247Sports composite.
