Three-star Greenville OL Blake Franks commits to South Carolina football class of 2024

COLUMBIA — South Carolina football picked up the sixth commitment to its 2024 recruiting class on Friday from Greenville offensive lineman Blake Franks.

Franks, a three-star recruit, is the No. 7 prospect in South Carolina for the class of 2024 and the No. 34 offensive tackle nationally according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He chose the Gamecocks from among 16 Division I offers, including Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Ole Miss.

The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Franks helped lead Greenville to the Class AAAA state semifinals this season. He is he second commit from the Red Raiders in the Gamecocks' 2024 class, joining four-star wide receiver Mazeo Bennett.

South Carolina has excelled in landing in-state prospects over the last two classes. With Franks' commitment, the Gamecocks will have three of the top seven 2024 recruits, including No. 3 prospect Kam Pringle, a four-star offensive lineman. They also signed six of the top 18 prospects in 2023, while in-state rival Clemson didn't sign any in the top 10.

The Gamecocks are also favored to land the top two players in the state for 2024. Four-star offensive lineman Josiah Thompson, the No. 1 prospect, will announce his commitment April 14 from among a top 5 of South Carolina, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Miami. Four-star safety Kelvin Hunter, the No. 2 prospect, has yet to set a commitment date but holds 11 offers including three from SEC programs.

The 2023 recruiting class is Beamer's second since taking over the program in 2021 and is ranked No. 16 nationally, the program's best result since it had the No. 16 class in 2012. He also landed the first five-star prospect of his tenure, signing No. 1 athlete Nyckoles Harbor.

South Carolina (8-5, 4-4 SEC) finished the regular season on back-to-back upsets over top-10 teams. The Gamecocks dominated then-No. 5 Tennessee and knocked off then-No. 8 Clemson for the first time in the rivalry matchup since 2013. They concluded the year with a 45-38 loss in the Gator Bowl against Notre Dame.
