Three to Stream: Owlfest is back, new ‘Sacramento EP’ from Josh Lippi

Note: We’re devoting our usual “Three to See” concert space to rounding up some info on what local and out-of-town artists are up to as we continue to shelter in place to fight COVID-19. Hosting a show online or releasing new music? Message us on Instagram with details: @adavis_threetosee.

Owlfest 9: All online (10 a.m. Saturday April 25): Last year’s Owlfest 8 (“The End of the Road”) was slated to be the final iteration of the cozy annual weekend gathering of local acts, but in these strange times, we’ll gladly give them a pass on reneging that promise and doing a reunion tour over at “The Owlfest 9 virtual venue” on Facebook. Instagon, Ross Hammond, Dean Haakenson, Mike and Laurianne Blanchard, Carl Salmonsen, Hannah Jane Kile, Wolfbreed and members of annual hosts MAU are among the platoon of locals slated to perform digital sets; John Prine tributes are likely, along with who knows what kind of Owlfest shenanigans. www.facebook.com/OwlfestForever.

Josh Lippi & the Overtimers, ‘The Sacramento EP’: Considering us in full swoon here at “Three to Stream” H.Q. over a “Sacramento EP” that backs up its title with a cover photo taken inside Old Ironsides, a sample from a Filibuster song and renditions of tunes by Rusty Miller of Jackpot (“Whiskey”) and Lee Bob Watson (“Annabelle”), in whose living room the record was recorded. Josh Lippi & the Overtimers’ new six-song collection, released last week, is a hearty dose of pure rolling clouds indie psych, with the requisite dashes of late-night midtown haziness. Lippi and photographer Trevor Traynor, who snapped a classic photo of the Sacramento water tower that adorns the back cover, are each sending a portion of sales of the EP and prints of the photo to Donate4Sacramento. joshlippi.bandcamp.com; trevortraynor.bigcartel.com.
