Three teens saved life of bridge jumper near Craigville Beach, officials say

CENTERVILLE — Three New York teens saved the life of a 15-year-old boy who lost consciousness after jumping off a bridge on Wednesday near Craigville Beach, authorities say.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department responded to a 911 report of someone losing consciousness after jumping off a bridge near Craigville Beach in Centerville, according to a fire department statement.

None of the teens were identified in the statement.

The bridge, a popular bridge-jumping location, is about 0.3 miles from the main entrance to Craigville Beach. Signs warn against jumping off the bridge.

When rescuers arrived, they found that the individual who had lost consciousness was being helped by staff from Craigville Beach, the statement said.

The three boys from Red Hook, New York noticed the teen struggling in the water. Two of the boys jumped in and pulled him to the bank, while the third kept an eye on them from the bridge, according to the fire department.

Barnstable police officers also helped at the scene.

Overall, the fire department does not see many incidents like the one on Wednesday at that bridge, Fire Captain Chris Adams said in an email.
