Alysa Liu looks to cap off her first full Senior season by earning an Olympic berth. Here's what to know about the Olympic hopeful.
The 16-year old Liu already has an impressive resume, highlighted by being a two-time U.S. National Champion in 2019 and 2020. She is the 2018 U.S. junior champion, winning a championship in three straight years. She took fourth in the 2021 U.S. Championships.
Recent coaching change
Liu recently changed coaches to Christy Krall, Drew Meekins and Viktor Pfeifer in the lead up to the Championships and Olympics. She moved from her native California to train in Colorado Springs, CO. She was training with former Olympians Massimo Scali and Jeremy Abbott.
First senior season
Liu is making her International senior debut during this season. She debuted on the ISU Challenger series. During the 2021 CS Lombardia Trophy by more than 32 points setting new personal best on the way. She competed in the 2021 CS Nebelhorn Trophy winning gold and giving the United States a third berth for the Olympics.
How did Liu do in 2022 U.S. Figure Skating Championships?
Liu withdrew from competition after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier in the week. She placed third in the short program before testing positive on Friday morning. Despite missing Friday's event, Liu was named to the 2022 Olympics team on Saturday.
