Ohio State trailed after the first 15 minutes

Ohio State got off to a good start the last time it faced Toledo.

Quarterback Joe Bauserman capped off a seven-play, 67-yard opening drive with a 26-yard touchdown to tight end Jake Stoneburner, giving the Buckeyes an early lead.

But the Ohio State offense was shut down for the rest of the quarter.

While the Buckeyes went on to punt twice and miss a field goal, accumulating 58 yards across their next 13 plays, Toledo scored two touchdowns — a six-yard pass from quarterback Austin Dantin to Eric Page and a 66-yard pass to Page from quarterback T.O. Owens — in the final seven minutes.

After a successful two-point conversion after the Rockets' first touchdown of the game, Toledo led the Buckeyes 15-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Ohio State outscored Toledo 20-7 for the rest of the game.

Carlos Hyde scored his first two collegiate touchdowns

While Bauserman finished with 189 yards and a touchdown, completing 16 of his 30 pass attempts, most of Ohio State's scoring came from running back Carlos Hyde.

Coming off his first start against Akron to start the 2011 season, Hyde, a future second-round NFL draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2014, scored his first Ohio State touchdown in the second quarter, carrying the ball 36 yards for the Buckeyes' first score of the second quarter.

Hyde added another three-yard touchdown rush at the end of the third quarter, who proved to be the final score for either team. The Naples, Florida native finished the game with 76 rushing yards on 20 carries, while adding four catches for 28 yards.

Later becoming one of Braxton Miller's go-to wide receivers in the end zone in 2013, Chris Fields scored his first collegiate touchdown what has become a rare occurrence for Ohio State in recent history.

Fields took a punt by Toledo's Vince Penza and returned it 69 yards for a touchdown at the end of the second quarter.

Since 2011, Corey Brown, Bradley Roby, Jalin Marshall and Sevyn Banks are the only players to have returned punts for touchdowns at Ohio State, recording six in the past 10 seasons and none since 2018.
