At least 6 tornadoes confirmed in Kentucky. NWS assesses damage

After a dangerous storm wreaked havoc throughout Kentucky on Tuesday, causing damage to people's homes, vehicles and more. Tornadoes and straight-line winds have been confirmed in the area.

The National Weather Service of Louisville confirmed on Wednesday morning that three preliminary EF-1 tornadoes impacted the state.

Did tornadoes impact Kentucky?

Yes. Evan Webb, a meteorologist with NWS of Louisville, said three preliminary EF-1 tornadoes touched down in various parts of Kentucky, including Nelson, Anderson and Jessamine counties. Three other tornadoes in Jefferson, Bourbon and Henry counties were confirmed Wednesday afternoon.

During a news conference Wednesday, Gov. Andy Beshear said reports indicate the number of confirmed tornadoes could increase to as many as 10.

Did tornadoes impact Louisville?

Yes. The National Weather Service has determined that a single tornado impacted both Jeffersonville, Indiana, before it struck Prospect Tuesday evening. The strength of the storm has not yet been officially reported, but NWS Louisville meteorologist-in-charge John Gordon said winds of up to 100 mph were seen in the area.

Kentucky tornado confirmed in Nelson County

A preliminary EF-1 tornado touched down in the northeastern part of Nelson County on Tuesday, as confirmed by the NWS on Wednesday morning.

Kentucky tornado confirmed in Anderson County

A preliminary EF-1 tornado touched down in Anderson County on Tuesday, confirmed by the NWS on Wednesday morning.

Tornado confirmed in Jessamine County, Kentucky

A third preliminary EF-1 tornado touched down in the northern part of Jessamine County, just south of Lexington.

Tornado confirmed in Henry County, Kentucky

A tornado with a preliminary wind speed estimate of 110 mph was confirmed to have touched down in Henry County near the community of New Castle.

Tornado confirmed in Bourbon County, Kentucky

An EF-1 tornado was confirmed to have touched down in Bourbon County during Tuesday's storms.

Straight-line winds confirmed in Kentucky

Straight-line winds were confirmed in Kentucky areas, including Fayette, Woodford, Mercer and Spencer County.

Storm damage in Kentucky

The NWS started assessing damages in several locations in Nelson and Spencer counties. On Wednesday, the NWS will survey Clark County, Indiana eastward through the Prospect area of Oldham and Henry counties.

Did tornadoes impact Indiana?

The weather service said two tornadoes were confirmed in Southern Indiana and were seen on the ground Tuesday afternoon.
