Three transported with minor injuries following head-on collision on the Hood Canal bridge

Three Jefferson County residents were taken to the hospital with minor injuries on Wednesday night after a head-on collision on the Hood Canal Bridge with a 19-year-old driver later arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

The 19-year-old, driving a 2009 white Chevrolet Explorer, was headed eastbound on the Hood Canal Bridge just before 6:30 p.m. when his vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a silver 2016 Toyota RAV4 heading westbound head-on, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Three passengers in the vehicle — a 77-year-old woman from Chimacum, a 63-year-old man from Port Hadlock and a 59-year-old woman from Port Hadlock — were taken to Jefferson General Hospital in Port Townsend as a precaution, according to the state patrol.

The 19-year-old man, whose residence was listed as Sunman, Indiana, was booked into the Kitsap County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of liquor or drugs.

The Hood Canal bridge was closed for roughly 90 minutes following the collision.
