4 workers shocked, hurt in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now) — The Alexandria Police Department said four construction site workers were injured after being shocked at a construction site on Monday morning.

Police said they are conducting an investigation at the Old Creek Homes site along the 6300 block of Stevenson Ave. where the incident took place just after 11 a.m.

The workers were transported to the hospital. Two of them had life-threatening injuries. The jolt injured a fourth person but he treated on-site and then released. Police said late Monday that the rest of those who were injured are in stable condition.

“I’m just shocked,” Nathaniel Getathew said.

Getathew does not live far from the site, and found a stretch of the road closed while emergency crews responded.

“When I saw everything, I saw a lot of police cars,” Getathew said. “The investigation, whatever. I really thought somebody got shot. Somebody died.”

Consumers Energy released a statement expressing its condolences saying that it was “saddened that people were hurt in what appears to be a tragic construction accident.”

Representatives from Consumers Energy and the construction company wrapped up its preliminary investigation, which includes security footage of the site and what happened.
