This thrift store is bringing some of its best bargains to downtown San Diego
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) —Thrifters, vintage hunters and budget-shoppers, get excited: the downtown San Diego is getting its first Goodwill Outlet Center.
Referred to by some as the “Goodwill bins,” the Outlet Centers have offer a shopping experience that is slightly different from the second-hand retailer’s regular stores: everything on sale is spread out into blue bins and shoppers pay for the items they gather by total weight.
This payment model offers shoppers some of the best deals compared to the discounts at other Goodwill stores. The outlets also regularly host auctions and other sales, as well as accept donations on-site.
The new downtown Outlet Center will be hosting its grand opening on Wednesday, Feb. 28. It will be open from at 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily in the 22,000 square-foot facility at 1466 F St. that was once home to the Jerome’s Furniture Warehouse.

When it opens, it will mark its first in central San Diego and fourth in the county, joining the others in Escondido, San Ysidro and Otay Mesa. According to Goodwill San Diego County, the location will be its “furniture hub,” accepting large pieces at the rear of the center.
It also boasts a novel feature for a downtown store — free customer parking. The entrance to the underground lot is on F Street, around the back of the store.
Founded in 1930, Goodwill of San Diego County is one of the largest tax-exempt nonprofits in the region, best known for its dozens of donation centers, retail stores, outlet centers and online shopping.
It also offers free job training programs and other opportunities to San Diegans with disabilities and employment barriers. Last year, the organization says these services helped more than 6,600 people while employing more than 1,600.
