‘My throw up was bright blue’: Florida cruise passengers get unknown illness, report says

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Some passengers on a cruise out of Jacksonville caught an unknown illness, which required one woman to be hooked up to an IV for half of the trip, according to a report.

Miranda Hill and her boyfriend’s family went on the Carnival Elation ship last week, according to First Coast News. She thought she was seasick, but ended up being something more.

“My throw up was bright blue and I have never eaten anything blue and every time I look up blue throw up, it has to deal with a poisoning,” Hill told First Coast News.

Hill had to be hooked up to an IV for half of the cruise, which was five days long, according to First Coast News.

Hill told the station that other passengers, including her friends and boyfriend’s family, all had symptoms as well. She said one friend threw up a live parasite.

News Channel 8 reached out to Carnival for comment and were told they had nothing to share at this time. A spokesperson said they would share information when it becomes available.

However, a Carnival spokesperson told First Coast News that they believe the passengers had gastroenteritis, and that the ship would undergo an extra layer of cleaning.

Hill told First Coast News she and her boyfriend received a $95 cruise credit to use on a future voyage.

The ship returned to Jacksonville on Monday.
