Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Between preparing for the big day, traveling to see family and friends, and shopping for hostess gifts, the holidays can get quite expensive (especially if you have expensive tastes like me) — but they don’t have to be. Linens

Head to your local thrift store and go straight to the fabric and linen section. There is usually an area where scraps are being sold. You can layer different pieces of fabric for a unique look or even use bed linens as a tablecloth or table runner.

Also, get creative, placing different pieces of fabric over your table, buffet and even kitchen island.

Glassware

Thanksgiving is all about fall-inspired glassware. Check out your local thrift store for sets of glassware that you can mix and match for different types of drinks. Have fun mixing ceramic and formal glassware for a unique cocktail and beverage experience for your guests.

Centerpieces

Not a floral designer? Neither am I, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a beautiful centerpiece. You can create a standout centerpiece by pairing a unique serving bowl and a variety of small pumpkins. This is a quick and easy table centerpiece that take seconds to create and will last for weeks. By making them yourself, you can save big on holiday decorations.

Salads

Salads are an easy item to dress up with toppings and make look gourmet and homemade. Pick up your favorite pre-made grocery salad and pair your favorite dried fruit and nut combination. This not only dresses up a basic salad but makes it a little more hearty and filling — perfect for Thanksgiving.

Desserts

If you are looking to create a quick and easy dessert, find a pre-made pie and crumble it into your favorite wine glass set. Add in fresh fruits, chocolate or brown-sugar-coated nuts for a unique dish that feels both homemade and stylish with minimal effort.

Meats

Don’t be afraid to try a small rotisserie chicken instead of turkey for your Thanksgiving. You can pick it up at the last minute, save on time and spend no more than $10, plus you won’t have to figure out what to do with all of those turkey leftovers the next day.
