#ThrowbackThursday: Missile sent to OKC as part of 1962 'Power for Peace' Armed Forces Day

The Oklahoma City skyline provides a backdrop for the arrival of a Redstone Missile at the Rock Island Depot in May 1962. The missile would be part of an Armed Forces Day open house on May 19, 1962, at Tinker Air Force Base. The Armed Forces Day was themed "Power for Peace," and the Tinker show drew a crowd of more than 170,000 spectators eager to view a simulated battle and tour the planes, missiles and other military equipment on base. Among Oklahoma observances planned this year for Armed Forces Day is a parade at 10 a.m. Saturday in downtown Lawton.
