Earning yet another win in the yearly series, the Tumwater football team piled up 431 rushing yards in a 58-7 win over Black Hills in the Pioneer Bowl Friday night at Tumwater District Stadium.
The Thunderbirds struck first after a 26-yard pick-six from Luke Reid, but fell behind in the first quarter after Jaxsen Beck threw a short strike for a touchdown to give the Wolves a 7-6 lead at the first break.
After that, it was all T-Birds. Carlos Matheney rushed for 148 yards and four touchdowns, and Logan Cole added 119 rushing yards with a score himself, leading the way to 580 yards of total offense and 431 total rushing yards.
Kooper Clark and Jaylin Nixon also added long touchdown runs in the Thunderbird win.
Having already secured the second-seed in the 2A Evergreen Conference as runners-up, the Thunderbirds will take on Ridgefield at home next week with a trip to the state playoffs on the line, while Black Hills looks to regroup and get ready for a Kansas Tiebreaker on Monday with Shelton and Aberdeen.
Because the Highclimbers, Wolves, and Bobcats finished all tied for third in league, a Kansas Tiebreaker will be played in Tumwater with the third and fourth seeds up for grabs, and a fifth-place finish meaning that team's season is over.
