Thunderstorm knocks down trees and utility poles, prompts road closures in Framingham
FRAMINGHAM — A quick but strong storm with heavy winds moving through the city has resulted in several roads being closed due to downed trees and utility poles, police said.
Police said Florita Drive, Pine Lane, Edgebrook Drive, Edgell Road (between Edgebrook Drive and Scott Drive) and Central Street (between Summer Street and Indian Head Road) were closed due to the storm.
As of 4:30 p.m., there were 373 customers without power, according to Eversource.
According to the National Weather Service, the wind also knocked down wires on McPhee Street and a large branch on Wickford Road.
"There were torrential rains, which isn't unusual for this time of year," said Hayden Frank, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service. "It's hot and humid and then you got a cold front in the area and it sets off torrential rain."
Frank said more storms could occur tonight, but people shouldn't expect as much damage. Street flooding is possible, though.
