Thunderstorms with gusty winds, hail possible this afternoon; Big Diamond postpones race

Jul. 12—The National Weather Service at State College has issued a hazardous weather outlook for this afternoon with the possibility of severe thunderstorms with damaging winds of 60 mph or greater and hail exceeding 1 inch in diameter this afternoon and early evening.

The conditions apply to most of southcentral and central Pennsylvania, to include Schuylkill, Dauphin, Lebanon, Columbia, Northumberland and parts or all of 19 other counties.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely mainly between 2 and 5 p.m. It will otherwise be partly sunny with a high near 85.

Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch are forecast, except if there are thunderstorms.

Tonight there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m. then a slight chance of showers between 8 and 11 p.m. It will be partly cloudy with a low around 64 tonight.

Big Diamond postpones

With severe weather forecast, the Super DIRTcar Series and Big Diamond Speedway officials have postponed tonight's event at the track until Wednesday. All times will remain the same with the grandstands and pit gate opening at 4 p.m. Hot Laps will take place at 6:30 pm and racing starts at 7:30 p.m.

This will be the first time since 2009 that the Super DIRTcar Series has returned to Big Diamond Speedway.
