There have been six homicides in Austin within 10 days, with the most recent being a fatal shooting at an apartment complex in Southeast Austin on Thursday night. It was the city’s 21st homicide of the year.

Police Cpl. Jose Mendez said Austin police received a 911 call at 10:43 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 1700 block of Teri Road. The caller said they heard several gunshots within the complex.

With the help of security personnel, Mendez said police located a man, later identified as 22-year-old Darion Dupree, inside the apartment with a gunshot wound to the chest. He said medical treatment was given, but Dupree was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:09 p.m.

Police said Dupree had been arguing with another person when a male juvenile shot and killed him. The juvenile was located, arrested and charged with first-degree murder, police said.
